INDIA a country known for its unity in diversity. Here, lakhs of people belonging to different religions and communities live together with peace and harmony. Its ethnicity often labeled as the amalgamation of diverse cultures that spans across the Indian subcontinent and has been backed by various cities that project their distinct features as the quality of India. Each city has something so unique and pure which not only adds to its praise but altogether makes up this diverse and beautiful India. One such commendable place is Prayagraj – the city of Sacrifices.

Prayagraj, the name signifies the confluence of three main rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. It is also believed that Lord Brahma performed his first Yajna (yagna) on this land; therefore the name reflects the spirituality it holds within.  Formerly known as Allahabad, Prayagraj is one of the most beautiful cities in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Known for its culture and historical stories, it is also the most populous city in the state. It is not just limited with hosting of the grand Hindu pilgrimage but it has also been famous for its political and cultural phases. Visiting the city itself would appease you but there are a few famous spots which will make you adore this city even more.

Anand Bhawan: Residence of the Nehru family which is now modified as a museum, Anand Bhawan portrays the remarkable journey of independent India. The alluring two-storey building is taken care of as a symbolic mark on the account of the political history of our country. Rooms occupied by Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru and once by Mahatma Gandhi are still preserved. This home contains the library which will make the journey of independence of India flash in front of your eyes.

When to Visit: The museum is open all the days of the week except MONDAY and the timings are from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Khusro Bagh: Another from the history is the Khusro Bagh representing the Mughal Empire. Situated near the Allahabad junction, the place consists of 4 tombs belonging to the Shah Jahan family. The beautiful place was built in the memory of Prince Khusrao, who was the eldest son of Jehangir. A quadrangle shaped garden is well maintained with the fabulous decor inside the building.

When to Visit: The historical place is open on all days of the week between 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. visiting this place in the mornings during summers and in afternoons during winters will be more refreshing and soothing.

Triveni Sangam: Considered as the most sacred place in the city, this is the location where the three main religious rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati meet. Out of these three, two can be identified by an individual as the rivers show their original colors while the third one is considered to flow underneath and is believed to join the other two from below. It is a spiritual place where thousands of people gather during Kumbh Mela, a festival which is held after every 12 years is well known across the nation for as a ritual to wash away your sins by taking bath in the confluence of three rivers and attain Nirvana (free from the birth cycle) after death. This place will take you to another level of spirituality and saintly.

When to Visit: You can visit this place anytime.

Allahabad Fort: Allahabad fort was constructed by Mughal Emperor Akbar. It is located near the banks of the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. The marvelous place is significant not only for its location but also for its amazing architecture. The purpose behind the construction of this fort is also mentioned in Akbarnama b Abu’l – Fazl. Only the part of this mesmerizing place is open for the public as the rest of it lies under the sole control of the Indian Army.

When to Visit: The door of the fort welcomes you on all days of the week between 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The best time to visit this place is during the monsoon season.  Evenings are more cheerful and happening.

Alfred Park: Alfred Park also known as Chandra Shekhar Azad Park is a public park in Allahabad, which remarks about the death of the great freedom fighter, Chandra Shekhar Azad. This is a place where he shot himself before British Army could catch hold of him. The ambiance of the park itself speaks the velour showed by Azad in the encounter with Britishers and his sacrifice to the mother nation.

When to Visit: Generally it is open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM but one can experience the best of it during the evening time. The huge garden will help you to refresh your mind and have a peaceful connection with nature.
